The Farm

Where it all began…

Flower Hill Farm was always in the back of my mind. This 20 acre property of hills and fields in Boonville, New York is where I grew up. Running all day, collecting tadpoles and smelling the wildflowers. My heart never left here, even though my family did in the mid-90s. More than two decades later, I bought the land back, along with the house my father built. I felt whole again.

Shortly after moving in, I felt the unending pull to share the beauty of this land with the world. I knew it was a special place and so something special had to be done here. One day I decided— I’ll fill it with flowers. Flower Hill Farm was born.

Now, five years later we have expanded to offer flowers to hundreds of customers a season, including wholesale accounts and local florists. We have a peony field made up of roughly 1,000 peony plants on their way to maturity, some nearly there. The photo above is me walking through a field of 180 limelight hydrangeas, now two years old.

We have about an acre of active annual cut flower production and we just expanded growth inside our unheated hoophouse, where thousands of plants defy the odds and bloom in the early spring.

We have two areas that are fenced in, making up about a quarter acre, where we grow plants that deer love to munch on. There is also an acre of perennials off to the side of the property which includes lavender, lilacs, smokebush trees, ilex, and an assortment of viburnum. I personally can’t wait until the coralberry plants mature.

The farm is not open to the public, please do not attempt to visit. We have a retail location in the village of Boonville, where the public is welcome. We are considering a private ticketed tour of the farm in summer 2023.
